Can a committee member resign before the AGM?

A committee member, whether they be an office bearer or ordinary member can resign  from a committee at any time. The constitution would typically have a short statement on this matter. In the Model Constitution used in NSW for associations the clause on casual committee vacancies states a member is considered to have resigned “if the member resigns office by notice in writing given to the secretary”. However, as the Constitution will dictate the number of committee members required to make decisions, it is important that any committee member thinking about resigning carefully considers the impact of their decision and the effect it might have on the continued operation of the service.
