What is the definition of “casual” under the Children’s Services Award?

The Children’s Services Award defines a casual employee as an employee engaged for “temporary and relief purposes”. The Fair Work definition is that the casual employee does not have a commitment to perform the work offered by the employer, and the employer has not committed to the length of employment or hours or days worked. A casual employee has no guaranteed hours of work and usually works irregular hours. Usually, a person working regular or systemic hours of work would not be considered a casual employee and would be considered to be working part-time or full-time depending on the number of hours worked.
