What are the notification and evidence required for Community Service Leave?

An employee who takes community service leave must give their employer

  • notice of the absence as soon as possible (this may be after the leave starts)
  • the period or expected period of absence.

An employer may request an employee, who has given notice to take or has taken community service leave, to provide evidence that they are entitled to the leave. The evidence must satisfy a reasonable person. This might take the form of proof from the emergency body of attendance at the emergency.
