NSW Public Register of Teachers

The Minister for Education and Early Learning, Sarah Mitchell, has announced a streamlined process to apply for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) accreditation in NSW.  This process includes early childhood teachers.

Following changes to the Teacher Accreditation Act (2004) to improve national consistency in teacher registration, the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) will publish a Public Register of actively accredited teachers on 30 June 2022.  This is a further change made in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

The searchable register will only include teachers’ names, their NESA number and confirmation that they are actively accredited.  A teacher may apply to have their name removed from the Public Register.  NESA will remove the name of a teacher from the Public Register if they can satisfy NESA that their inclusion on the Public Register may affect their safety or well-being.  Applications for removal should be emailed to publicregister@nesa.nsw.edu.au.

By appearing on the Register, parents and carers can be assured that a NSW teacher meets the state’s robust accreditation and child protection standards and is:

  • qualified,
  • meets national teaching standards,
  • holds a current child protection clearance, and
  • regularly completes professional development.
