Free Preschool for NSW

Announcement by NSW Government

$133 Million Support Package for Early Childhood Education and Care

The NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian, announced this morning that preschool will be free for all NSW children during the COVID-19 pandemic as part of the NSW Government’s measures to support parents and workers.

Under the funding package;

  • $82 million will be made available to services that are ineligible for JobKeeper Payment (ie. local government operated services), and
  • $51 million for preschools to waive charges to parents for 6 months.

The funding is conditional on preschools and council operated services remaining operating.

Both the Premier and Minister for Early Childhood, Sarah Mitchell, acknowledged the efforts of the sector in keeping services operating, and the importance of early childhood education at this time.

The Premier’s media release will be available here.

CCSA will also be releasing a media statement in relation to the announcement, that will be available to read on our Facebook page.

The NSW Department of Education will be presenting a live stream session at 11:30am today that is expected to further discuss this announcement. You can join the session online via their Facebook page, or watch a recording of this livestream at a later time.

CCSA will provide further information and analysis as more detail becomes available.
